Overview
The GW Instek GDM-9052 Dual Measurement Digital Multimeter is a high-precision 5½-digit digital multimeter designed for laboratory, educational, and industrial applications. Developed by GW Instek, it replaces the earlier GDM-8351 and GDM-8352 models in the same category.
The instrument features a 4.3-inch LCD display, a maximum resolution of 239,999 counts, and 0.012% basic DC voltage accuracy, providing users with reliable measurement precision and clear data visualization. Equipped with USB and RS-232C interfaces, the GDM-9052 also allows convenient integration with a computer for remote control and data acquisition.
Automatic Identification (A.I.) Measurement

The Automatic Identification (A.I.) Measurement function provides a seamless testing experience by automatically detecting and selecting the appropriate measurement function.
Unlike traditional AUTO modes that only switch ranges, A.I. measurement can automatically identify and measure:
- Voltage
- Resistance
- Diode
- Continuity
This feature eliminates manual function selection and significantly simplifies routine measurements.
Measurement Capabilities
In addition to standard measurement functions such as:
- AC/DC Voltage
- AC/DC Current
- AC+DC Voltage and Current
- 2-Wire / 4-Wire Resistance
- Frequency
- Temperature
- Continuity test
- Diode test
the GDM-9052 also includes capacitance measurement for extended testing capabilities.
The instrument supports True RMS measurement, ensuring accurate results for complex AC signals.
Advanced Mathematical Functions
To meet the needs of manufacturing tests, laboratory measurements, and educational experiments, the GDM-9052 provides several advanced calculation functions, including:
- Maximum / Minimum recording
- dB and dBm measurement
- Compare function
- Reading hold
- Mathematical operations such as MX+B, 1/X, and %
These features allow engineers and technicians to perform more advanced data analysis directly from the instrument.
Digital I/O and External Control
The integrated Digital I/O interface provides flexible external control capabilities.
In addition to standard signal output used for comparison functions, users can also customize the signal output for each pin. In user-defined mode, the I/O interface can function as a simple digital hardware control system, enabling external device control without complex additional hardware.
Remote Control and Connectivity
For remote operation and automated testing systems, the GDM-9052 offers:
- RS-232C interface
- USB interface
When using the USB connection, users can select between:
The USBTMC mode enables instrument control via USB in the same way as with a GPIB interface, eliminating the need for expensive GPIB cables.
