Safety Testers

Safety testers (also known as Hi-Pot testers, Hipot testers, or High Potential testers) are designed to ensure the safe operation of devices under test (DUTs) under various operating conditions and environments.

The Dielectric Withstand Test was the original official term for this procedure. It is commonly referred to as the High Potential Test, which has been abbreviated in the industry to Hipot.

A Hipot tester is a specialized electrical testing instrument used to evaluate the electrical insulation of wires, cables, and other electrical equipment. It verifies that the insulation can withstand high voltage levels without breakdown or failure.

The High Potential Test therefore refers to a high-voltage test procedure used to confirm the integrity of electrical insulation and ensure the electrical safety of equipment.
