Overview of the GPT-10000 Series
GW Instek introduces the GPT-10000 Series, its flagship safety analyzer designed for high-performance electrical safety testing. This series features a high-voltage DC output of up to 12 kV and an output capacity of 500 VA / 200 VA. It is the first safety analyzer in the world to comply with the IEC 61010-2-034 standard, which specifies safety requirements for electrical equipment used in measurement, control, and laboratory environments, particularly for insulation resistance measurement and dielectric strength testing equipment.
This standard defines strict requirements for both hardware and software interfaces during the design of high-voltage and insulation resistance test instruments, ensuring that users receive appropriate protection and warnings during operation.
Available Models
The GPT-10000 Series includes nine models designed to meet different testing requirements:
- GPT-15012: DC dielectric withstanding test and insulation resistance test.
- GPT-15004 / GPT-12004: AC/DC dielectric withstanding voltage test, insulation resistance test, AC ground bond test, and continuity test.
- GPT-15003 / GPT-12003: AC/DC dielectric withstanding voltage test, insulation resistance test, and continuity test.
- GPT-15002 / GPT-12002: AC/DC dielectric withstanding voltage test and continuity test.
- GPT-15001 / GPT-12001: AC dielectric withstanding voltage test and continuity test.
The entire series uses a high-efficiency PWM amplifier to effectively eliminate the influence of fluctuating input voltage or distorted waveforms. This ensures a stable high-voltage output during AC dielectric tests performed on the Device Under Test (DUT), meeting international safety standards such as IEC, EN, UL, CSA, GB, and JIS.
User Safety and Protection
To comply with IEC 61010-2-034 requirements, the GPT-10000 Series integrates multiple safety features. A double insulation design is applied to both the input power supply and the output voltage, significantly enhancing user protection.
A recessed START button and several optional activation mechanisms—such as press-and-hold activation or dual-key activation—help prevent accidental operation that could result in high voltage or large current output, potentially causing damage to equipment or danger to users.
High-intensity LED indicators (flashing or steady) and a loud audible alarm provide clear notifications about the status of ongoing tests and test results. After each test, the DUT is automatically discharged to a safe voltage level of approximately 30 V to prevent risks caused by residual high voltage.
User Interface and Performance
The series is equipped with a 7-inch color TFT LCD display and follows the simple and intuitive key design typical of the GW Instek product family. This design allows users to operate the instrument easily while clearly monitoring test results.
The GPT-15012 model supports DC dielectric tests up to 12 kV. Other models provide the following major testing functions:
- AC dielectric withstanding voltage test up to 5 kV

- Continuity test: 0.01 Ω resolution
Additional features include adjustable voltage ramp-up and ramp-down times, upper and lower limit judgment settings, and the ability to test devices with large capacitance values up to 47 µF.
For insulation resistance testing, a fixed 10 mA pre-charge current is applied to quickly charge the capacitive load of the DUT before measurement. This approach prevents incorrect readings caused by inrush current fluctuations.
Statistical Analysis and Advanced Testing
One of the key highlights of the series is its statistical analysis function. After testing, the system automatically records test items, the number of tests performed, and judgment results. These results can be displayed as bar graphs directly on the screen, allowing users to monitor product testing status and result distribution during manufacturing without the need for a PC.
The sweep function is another powerful feature used to analyze a product’s breakdown point. It allows users to view curve diagrams of test results after functional testing and analyze the relationship between voltage and current at different time points during the test.

The GPT-10000 Series also offers extensive memory and connectivity features:
- 100 manual test memory sets
- 100 automatic test memory sets
- Export of test configurations via USB flash drive
- Barcode scanner support via front-panel USB host
- Rear output terminal for system integration
- USB storage for saving test results without a PC
- Communication interfaces including RS-232C, USB, and optional GPIB or LAN for PC control
Test results can be stored either in the internal memory or on a USB flash drive, enabling convenient data storage and simplifying subsequent analysis without requiring an external computer.
Compliance with IEC 61010-2-034
Providing the market with safe electronic products is the responsibility of every manufacturer. Likewise, safety analyzers designed to verify whether electronic products comply with safety regulations must place a strong emphasis on the protection they provide. The GPT-10000 Series is the world’s first safety analyzer compliant with IEC 61010-2-034 (Safety requirements for electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use – particular requirements for measurement equipment for insulation resistance and test equipment for electric strength).
In addition, the series incorporates several safety mechanisms, including double insulation for input and output voltages, secure output and warning mechanisms, and a post-test discharge system. These features ensure maximum safety for the user during operation.
High Accuracy and High Resolution Testing Performance
For production testing and product verification, the GPT-10000 Series provides a dielectric withstand voltage test adjustable up to AC 5 kV or DC 6 kV in 1 V increments. The current measurement resolution reaches up to 1 μA in ACW mode and 0.1 μA in DCW mode, enabling precise measurement of very small leakage currents in products or components.
For insulation resistance testing, the DC output voltage is adjustable from 50 V to 5000 V in 50 V increments, with a resistance measurement resolution of up to 0.1 MΩ.
Since most safety standards require an AC power supply for ground bond testing, the GPT-10000 Series provides 8 Vac (open circuit) and a test current ranging from 3 A to 32 Aac. The resistance measurement resolution reaches 0.1 mΩ.
The series also features a grounding continuity test function using a fixed 100 mAdc test source with a measurement resolution of 0.01 Ω. This function verifies whether the tested equipment is properly grounded. With these capabilities, users can perform a wide range of safety tests with high precision and reliability.
Flexible Supplementary Testing Mechanism
To ensure compliance with various safety testing standards, the GPT-10000 Series provides a flexible output sequence configuration starting from the initial stage of the test. For example, during AC/DC dielectric withstand voltage tests, the initial voltage can be configured. Users can define the initial voltage ratio relative to the rated test voltage, and the voltage ramp-up time can be adjusted to reduce the risk of insulation breakdown or damage to the device under test (DUT) caused by transient high voltages.
Once the rated test voltage is reached, users can configure the upper and lower judgment limits, delay judgment, and test timer mechanisms to ensure smooth and accurate testing procedures. A newly introduced voltage ramp-down time setting allows the voltage to decrease gradually, preventing excessive instantaneous discharge that may occur due to high rated test voltages.
For insulation resistance testing, a grounding mode has been added to perform tests according to the actual grounding state of the DUT. An additional upper and lower limit judgment mechanism helps reduce overall test time.
User-definable operating modes include:
- STOP ON FAIL: The test stops immediately once a failure condition is detected.
- STOP ON PASS: The test stops as soon as the pass condition is achieved.
- TIMER: Judgment is performed when the preset timer duration is reached.
Statistics and Analysis
The GPT-10000 Series includes a statistical function capable of recording test functions and judgment results in a temporary storage area with a capacity of up to 60,000 lots. This allows users to instantly review test results for each function without requiring a computer.
The distribution of acceptable products can be analyzed to evaluate batch quality based on collected data. If a large number of results fall close to the failure threshold, potential issues can be detected early in the testing process. This allows manufacturers to improve production processes and prevent defective products from reaching the market, ensuring higher product reliability after shipment.
Sweep and Tabular Automatic Testing
The GPT-10000 Series features a unique sweep function that displays a graphical curve of DUT test results. Measurements are recorded point by point according to the applied voltage or current and related parameters such as initial voltage, ramp-up time, test duration, and ramp-down time.
After the test is completed, users can analyze measurement values at specific time points by moving the cursor along the curve. This feature helps users observe variations in measurement parameters such as current or resistance throughout the test and identify critical breakdown points of the DUT.
The automatic testing function allows each test sequence to include up to 10 manual test items. All settings and result judgments are displayed in a tabular format, enabling users to quickly review the results of all test items simultaneously. Multiple automatic test sequences can also be chained together for fully automated testing workflows.
Barcode Function
The GPT-10000 Series supports barcode reader integration, enabling automated management of test conditions for each DUT. This feature is particularly beneficial for mixed-product production lines.
By scanning the DUT barcode, the system automatically loads the corresponding test parameters, preventing incorrect test configurations and reducing the risk of damaging the device under test.
Configuration Data Export and Import
To accelerate production line deployment and ensure consistent testing conditions, the GPT-10000 Series provides a configuration data export and import mechanism.
Users can configure test conditions on one unit and then replicate those settings to other units using a USB flash drive. This not only speeds up setup but also prevents configuration discrepancies between devices.
Complete Test Data Retrieval Interface
To facilitate test result analysis, the GPT-10000 Series includes a USB storage function in addition to its built-in statistical and analytical capabilities.
When a USB flash drive is inserted and the storage function is enabled, each press of the START button automatically saves the results of all tests (manual or automatic) as a text file (.txt) on the USB drive for later analysis.
If a USB drive is not available, users can activate the internal memory storage function, which can store up to 30,000 lots of test results. These results can later be transferred to an external device via a USB drive. The series also includes RS-232C and USB Device interfaces (with optional GPIB or LAN) for convenient data retrieval and integration with a PC.
User-Defined Signal I/O
For interface connectivity, the GPT-10000 Series provides several external control options, including a Signal I/O port that can be connected to an external controller or a programmable logic controller (PLC).
The output signal pins of the Signal I/O interface can be customized by the user to meet various PLC control requirements and facilitate seamless integration into automated industrial systems.
