Automated systems are now an integral part of nearly every industry. With the MecLab® system from Festo Didactic, students gain a practical understanding of how automation technology is applied in real production environments.
The three MecLab stations represent simplified models of typical production processes found in modern automated manufacturing facilities. They provide a realistic yet accessible platform for learning the fundamentals of industrial automation.
MecLab® covers a wide range of topics and competencies, including:
Festo Didactic MecLab replicates real industrial production processes using exclusively industrial-grade components.
The system includes a comprehensive set of structured exercises designed to challenge learners in a hands-on environment focused on building, modifying, and programming an automated mechatronic system.
All necessary tools and materials required for system modifications are included. Electrical wiring is simplified through the use of standard industrial connectors, ensuring safe and efficient assembly.
MecLab stations can be operated independently. Each station performs a dedicated function and safely demonstrates the characteristics of a fully automated process.
The stations can also be combined to form more complex production lines. Learners can take on the role of engineers by designing custom exercises and projects, including the integration of all three stations into a mini production line.
Each system is delivered in its own storage case, fully assembled and ready for immediate use. The equipment is robust and designed to withstand the demands of educational environments.

Function
In automated production lines, components are stored and introduced into the process according to a defined sequence. The MecLab stacking station performs storage, transfer, and pressing operations.
Workpieces are pushed horizontally by a pneumatic cylinder. A vertical cylinder simulates a pressing or assembly process (e.g., fastening a lid to a container).
All processes are electropneumatically controlled. The integrated magnetic Reed switch enables precise cylinder position detection.

Function
In many production lines, parts are transported between process stations via belt conveyors. The MecLab conveyor station provides a realistic simulation of industrial material transport.
The drive motor can operate in both forward and reverse directions. Parts are detected, classified, and sorted by color.

Function
Handling systems are essential in assembly and pick-and-place applications, ranging from simple two-axis systems to complex six-axis industrial robots.
The MecLab handling station consists of pneumatically driven cylinders with linear guides and two axes. Workpieces are gripped using a pneumatic gripper. The system can transfer parts between stations or assemble components.
Learning Objectives

An economical and classroom-optimized compressor designed for educational environments. With only 41 dB(A), it is suitable for classroom use and can supply up to four stations.

Optional accessory set for developing custom projects. Delivered in a practical Systainer case.
