Reference : FXB-A25001 Gasoline Engine Sensors and Actuators Training Bench with Training Panel
Vehicle Application: Volkswagen Passat 1.8T
1. General Description
This training bench is designed for the study, demonstration, and diagnosis of an automotive gasoline engine electronic management system. Based on original engine sensors and actuators, it enables students to understand the operation of the main components, signal exchanges with the engine electronic control unit (ECU), and the operating principles of fuel injection and ignition control.
The equipment consists of an engine training bench and a training panel. The sensors and actuators are connected to the corresponding terminals on the panel using connection cables, allowing students to study their operation and perform various electrical measurements.
2. Features and Educational Functions
Electronic Engine Management System Study
- Demonstration of an electronic gasoline engine management system using original engine sensors and actuators.
- Simulation of engine operation using a crankshaft signal-generating wheel.
- Study of the engine electronic control unit (ECU), fuel pump, electromagnetic fuel injectors, and ignition system.
- Visualization and analysis of ignition and injection sequences using crankshaft and camshaft signals.
- Study of the principles of multi-point port fuel injection, according to the integrated ECU program.
- Analysis of the ECU internal circuit diagram to understand the design principles of electronic engine control circuits.
Integrated Sensors and Actuators
The training bench includes the following components, among others:
- Accelerator pedal position sensor.
- Intake air temperature sensor.
- Intake manifold absolute pressure sensor.
- Mass air flow sensor.
- Dual-track throttle position potentiometer.
- Electromagnetic fuel injectors.
- Ignition coils.
- Crankshaft speed and position sensor.
- Camshaft position sensor.
Training and Control Panel
The training panel incorporates the main components required for studying the engine management system:
- Engine electronic control unit (ECU).
- Automotive diagnostic socket.
- Dashboard.
- Ignition switch.
- Ignition system.
- Fuel tank.
- Electrical signal measurement and testing terminals.
- Color-coded electrical circuit diagram to facilitate component identification and circuit analysis.
- Wireless fault-setting and educational assessment system operated via a tablet.
Electrical Measurements and Signal Analysis
Measurement terminals are provided to allow students to observe and analyze the main electrical signals of the system. Practical activities include:
- Measuring voltage, current, and electrical resistance.
- Observing sensor and actuator waveforms using a suitable measuring instrument.
- Analyzing changes in sensor parameters using a frequency meter or voltmeter, depending on the signal being studied.
- Measuring crankshaft and camshaft signal frequencies.
- Analyzing signals related to throttle position and accelerator pedal position.
- Studying variations in ignition and fuel injection frequencies under simulated operating conditions.
- Observing the influence of accelerator pedal position on the system's operating parameters.
Electronic Diagnostics and Fault Simulation
The training bench is equipped with a diagnostic socket for connecting a compatible automotive diagnostic tool. Depending on the functions supported by the ECU, this interface allows users to:
- Read diagnostic trouble codes stored in the engine control unit.
- Clear diagnostic trouble codes.
- Retrieve operating data and parameters transmitted by the ECU.
The wireless fault-setting and educational assessment system allows instructors to introduce faults using a tablet. Students must then identify the anomalies, carry out the required checks, and determine the cause of each fault. This feature supports the assessment of students' knowledge and the development of automotive diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
